uh, cause it's worth it.

why today was a wonderful wednesday:

1. marcel the shell (with shoes on) has returned in a just as entertaining and endearing [sequal]. and, i got curious about the voice of marcel, just because it cracks me up so much, and came across some more of jenny slate's videos. [this one] had me literally laughing out loud with her answer. just thought i'd share.

2. i haven't charged my ipod in maybe about 2 weeks now. let me just tell you, that's a long time in my world. so i've gotten kind of sick of listening to my randomly assorted cds over and over and have finally accepted the radio. now, one of the only songs i actually enjoy on the radio right now is moves like jagger (along with the jazz station, but that's another story). seriously, i don't mean to be all anti-conformist over here, but if i have to hear another rihanna song i might just go crazy and go on a killing rampage. totally kidding. but back to the point, i have this new ritual of checking every radio station for moves like jagger when i turn on my car. no, i am not kidding. that is what rihanna's doing to me: desperation. so today, when i turned on my car, you know what the 2nd radio station i checked was playing? yep, you got it, moves like jagger. my heart skipped a beat. and it was even still on the whistles at the beginning. what else do i even need for a wonderful wednesday?

3. news flash: i got a job.
oh yes, it's true. i am the newest hostess at hill street café and i can't complain. everyone is nice and understanding of my newness to the job world. walking into work on wednesday felt like a milestone. well, as it so happens, hill street has some very loyal customers. and a lot of them happen to be over 60. i kind of love old people, so i'm okay with it. they really seem to understand the concept of taking pleasure in the details. so today an old man came in for a pick up order. i love pick ups because i get to run the credit cards and that's probably my favorite part of being a hostess, no shame here. this man was one of those that you just can't help but feel inspired by. he smiled at me and told me about how he and his wife were hill street regulars like all the rest, but she is very ill right now. so about once a week he comes in and gets take out for the both of them to bring back to her so they can eat dinner together, and so she can still have her hill street meal. my oh my, was i taken aback. i sound oh so cheesy, but that old man reminded me that maybe true love does exist. maybe there is a love affair that can last forever (mr. warhol). and someone else was telling him how sorry they were for his struggles, and he said something like "all you can do is everything you can". it's not exactly philosophically stunning, i know, but the way he said it with a smile struck a chord in me. i guess all you can do is everything you can.

4. so onto the post work festivities: e-mile. living the high life. my big purchase was strawberry pop tarts and a scratcher. this is only my second scratcher ever, mind you, and guess what...i won $4. yes, ladies and gentlemen, i am three dollars richer than i was when i walked into e-mile this evening.

5. i somehow ended up at the americana to see the movie immortal with geoff and juma. although i really enjoyed walking along next to the fountain, listening to sinatra and sipping my green tea with honey in a christmas cup, that is not the focus of this point. what we are focusing on is the amount of hot man arms in that movie. i'll be honest, war movies are not exactly my cup o' tea, but i learned something very important: hot arms aren't just for admiring - they're used for holding up the hot arms of other men to prevent them from stabbing you in the upper body and/or face. i can't tell you how many times i saw a scene like that tonight.

6. and finally, my last point is a foxy one. what really brought me joy during that movie was how every time athena came on screen, geoffrey james bywater the third felt compelled to say (at full volume) three words: what. a. fox. athena is now permanently burned into my mind as a fox.

sorry if i went into ramble mode, i guess i ramble when i'm happy after a
wonderful wednesday.

24 March 2011

hey little bird.

1. alright, so, the other day i was on facebook and what seemed like every single status was about that certain song about a certain day of the week that makes me want to slap someone across the face. (no joke, literally as i was typing this, my sister turned on the song in the next room. me tuer, s'il te plaît) anyway, somehow i ended up making the transition from facebook to youtube to watch the recent japan footage. and i hate to sound so typical, but please social networking, what have you done to the world? the fact that pop culture has narrowed in on a trending youtube video for it's lack of value more than opportunities like [this] makes me want to...well, barf.

2. i got to laugh so hard last night that, at one point, i was genuinely scared i might pee my pants (go ahead and judge, but i think it's a waste of your time). and it was largely in thanks to the great rasheed JUSTIN akbarut. just thought i'd send a shout out to my fellow camus-worshiper.

3. i am absolutely enraptured by [mumford and sons]. if you haven't had the chance to listen to their album yet, i'd suggest starting with that link. that song stole my heart. (could i get any more cheesy? forgive me)

4. i'm departing for peru in almost exactly a week! goodbye la cañada, hello foreign land.

5. i'm in love with seahorses. and lucky boy bacon breakfast burritos with thousand island dressing. and floret perfume.

6. and for the sixth point, [i have no words].

why not throw in a quote too?

“i wonder if i’ve been changed in the night? let me think. was i the same when i got up this morning? i almost think i can remember feeling a little different. but if i'm not the same, the next question is ‘who in the world am i?’ ah, that’s the great puzzle! if i had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. and contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. and what it wouldn’t be, it would. you see?”
lewis carroll

p.s. i have a crush on mark wahlberg.

multicoloured mirrors.

on friday, i ran into a book at knott's berry farm.
why was i at knott's, you ask?
well, i decided to spend some quality time with the girls in my beautiful family, and tag along on their adventure.
i really do miss living with the lovely mccollum ladies.
so anyway, on our way out, we stopped by the snoopy gift store, and i happened to come across [this book].
if you click to look inside, you'll understand what it's about.
it's simply a list of all the things that charles schulz believed make up happiness.
it was so inspiring that i decided to make up my own list.
happiness is yet another one of those words which, i believe, requires the word subjective in its definition.
so here's my definition:

happiness is...

just painted red nails.
a purring cat in your lap.
the smell of a library book.
that yearbook message with the power to make you cry.
 discovering a new favorite song.
crossing something off your to do list.
rainbow sprinkles.
a list of your future baby's names.
christmas time.
your own bed.
role models//feeling inspired.
speaking in another language.
making a child smile.
being the receiver of the words 'you really made me feel better'.
teaching someone something new.
getting goosebumps when it's not even cold.
laughing just because someone else's laugh is contagious.
knowing you are loved.

p.s. i would like to send a shout out to mr. samuel hancock blasucci who i miss dearly.
i enjoy getting your <3 every day.

05 November 2010

spray paint the vegetables.

my current loves in life:

1. options. there are so many of them, no matter where you're looking. currently, i'm looking for job options. for right now and the future. there may be a lack of jobs these days but when it comes to majors, the same problem doesn't apply. what to do?

2. discovery. my biggest obsession in life will ALWAYS be learning. but no one seems to be too excited to learn these days, since by association, the word has come to mean school to too many. we need to realize that learning is essentially discovery. when i hear discovery i think of a physical action, and this is so much more appealing to many. want to know what i discovered last week?
the white house wasn't white until the french war when half of it was burned down and it had to be whitewashed to disguise all the ash that had become a part of it.

3.  giving. i don't just mean giving food to the poor and volunteering for your church (not that that isn't always a good thing to do, of course). but giving in a simpler and more everyday sense can mean just taking less and appreciating more.

4. glee. i'm in love with puck. and finn. and sam. and dianna agron is simply beautiful. and the show is so fun. and it's a show about choir. and i can sing along to it. need i say more?

5. [apostle of hustle]. i've always loved their song eazy speaks but i only recently discovered how good their national anthem of nowhere album is.

6. christmas. i'm currently wearing my $8 wal mart christmas nightgown (take note that i do not generally support shopping there, because of its [environmental issues], but i couldn't pass up this red nightgown. my apologies, mother earth), and the roomie christmas card will be coming soon. prepare yourselves.

7. [operation beautiful]. i've actually seen some of these little post its around school, and they really do make me smile.

8. ralph's brand mild salsa. enough said.

9. paige riley. thank you for being here for me, love. you must know i'm always here for JOU too!

10. tea. the perfect way to start or end your day. maybe some caffeinated green tea for the morning and some calm lavender for the night? sleepytime tea always upset my stomach.

there are many, many more but these 10 will have to suffice for today. i'm thinking of making these lists a weekly thing.
ta ta for now.

20 September 2010

don't you evah.

it's about time for a new post.
sorry for the serious delay my lovely readers, but college is a busy place.
i have tried to start a blog post way too many times but i can tell this will be the one.
i wish i had some insightful ideas for you today, but it's 4:57am and i don't have the capacity for philosophy right now.
instead, i'll just give you a couple thoughts:

 1. two door cinema club. GO LOOK THEM UP. i am currently obsessed because they are nothing less than perfection. [something good can work].

2. i found a perfect wedding site for anyone who enjoys stalking other peoples' memories (aka most women, lbh): [greenweddingshoes.com]. who else is down to get married?

3. i am now in college classes, believe it or not, and i happen to be learning some things. the other day, my english professor was explaining the rhetorical situation and how you have to consider who an author's targeting as his/her main audience. i immediately thought of this blog and i realized why i have so much trouble knowing what to write in it sometimes. because i'm putting things out there that literally anyone in the world can read. my target audience is...the world? that's quite a bit of responsibility to take on.

4. i am visiting seattle next month. that is all.

yes please.

5. here are some pictures from my life here at lmu. i have a lovely roommate and some wonderful friends already:

first event = GLOW:

keepin it classy on top of the lmu sign:

AFTER SUNSET (best night):

roomies:

we love dem engineers:

i managed to lose my onecard (aka my life) for a solid 2 hours at a dance with hundreds of people and then found it. it was a small miracle and basically made my night...possibly even the entire weekend:

then came the spontaneous ucla game:

note how wonderfully spirited i was (don't worry, i only went this far on the car ride over):

so those are the highlights of my college experience so far. more to come i'm sure.
in other news...I TURN 18 ON WEDNESDAY. it's about time.
and i get to see my love paige riley on thursday.
and my loves jacob, samuel & brenty on saturday.
you know it's your birthday when even panera gives you a present.

xoxo.
also, thank you to my dear mother & father for putting up with my many car struggles. oopsies.

03 May 2010

sweet disposition.

today is may 3rd.
i could tell you everything that happened exactly a month ago today, but i won't, because that would just be unnecessary. all i really need to say is...who knew so much could happen in a month?

and i would like to continue a list i started last night.

having been inspired by 2 of my best friends, i would like to make an official list of things that make me happy. here we go:

☼ sunshine.
☼ music.
☼ friends.
☼ bread.
☼ learning.
☼ teaching.
☼ understanding.
☼ laughing.
☼ dr. pepper.
☼ swinging.
☼ daisies.
☼ the beach.
☼ babies.
☼ helping.
☼ red.
☼ dresses.
☼ owls.
☼ california.
☼ choir.
☼ candy.
☼ the beatles.
☼ blink.
☼ cleaning.
☼ cats.
☼ driving at night.
☼ manhattan beach.
☼ shopping.
☼ love.
☼ the future.
☼ God.
☼ full names.
☼ will & grace.
☼ nail polish.
☼ jewelry given to you by someone you love.
☼ photographs.
☼ lyrics.
☼ mr. padilla.
☼ sunshine.

sunshine was necessary to say twice, because a day with sunshine can never be completely sad.
i had to read a poem for english today, and we were supposed to write a structured essay about it. the reading and the writing wasn't hard...it was when the structure rule came in that i failed. i literally ended up writing my thoughts down. the poem was about this man waiting for something to happen in his life. and it made me mad. you can't just wait for something to happen, or nothing's ever gonna be good enough. if you need something meaningful to happen, it's gonna have to come from within yourself.

just so you all know. that's what i've discovered, at least.

20 March 2010

twenty-two things i love.

1. the oc, no surprise.
2. cds that other people make me. aka free music AND of all different genres.
3. making my mac screen negative by pressing ctrl+option+command+8.
4. the cure. i just discovered how much i love them and will start slowly acquiring their music. just like heaven, anyone?
5. blogging. i've decided to embrace the fact that i'm grounded, and put the time towards my blog. unfortunately, it's hard to blog when you have no life aka nothing to write about. but i'll see what i can do.
6. living. self explanatory.
7. getting things done. aside from the blogging, i've also decided to get some homework and organizing done...it could be...fun? maybe i'll read.
8. red nailpolish. red nailpolish defines my life and, therefore, it always needs to be on my nails.
9. the princess and the frog. that movie is perfection. i want anika noni rose's voice.
10. slideshows. pictures and music? too good.
11. bacon. actually, just food in general. aside from being essential for my survival, it brightens my life quite a bit.
12. saying nbd. in case that hasn't already been taken note of.
13. california. i never want to leave this state.
14. reorganizing. i just got inspired by marissa cooper's room...i think i want to reorganize mine.
15. dance parties. 2 coming soon. BACKWARDS AND MORMON PROM.
16. summer. as in the season, not the character. GET HERE.
17. the name trey. one of my future sons will most definitely be named trey.
18. adventuring. but safe adventuring that doesn't include the freeway after 11pm...yes, i know i sound like a mom. i'll just embrace it.
19. LONGBOARDING. as in skate, not surf. but speaking of which...
20. surfboard coffee tables. i want one!
21. daisies. someone should get me some someday...just putting that out there.
22. pizookies. i would marry them, if possible.

i still can't be deep unless it's in person...sorry. someday depth will return.

16 March 2010

j'adore la vie.

i feel like i should be able to write a really deep blog post right now. i know one's coming, but i just can't do it right now. i also feel like all i have done for the past 2 days is watch the oc. literally, though. i need to come back to life. but, for today, i'll just do this...

9 shallow observations for the day, with pictures to go along with each one:

1. i want to be summer roberts. teen idol anyone? hey friends, you are always welcome to call me summer. just so you know.

2. i have a new obsession with java chip frappuccino ice cream - the little ones that come with spoons, courtesy of jack gilbert. thank you for sparking that obsession.

3. hugs make me so happy. i want to become a really good hugger. i'll start practicing tomorrow.

4. i have this new life goal to get trapped in the mall overnight. with my best friends. it's nbd really. but i can promise that late night adventures with best friends are the best.

5. i still have jacob's shirt. and i don't plan on giving it back until forced. thanks jacob!

6. i'm a little bit in love with this dress. i want to own it.

7. i've experienced a miracle. how cool is that?

(this picture is coming soon)

8. my 2 favorite babies are leaving town this weekend. i love the facers. :(

(again, picture to come)

9. i got into ucsc and uc merced today! i don't actually want to go to either of those places...but hey, i got into more college. and it means i get to stay in cali. :) i love you, beach.

goodnight. xo readers.
